This book tells the stories of two women, Darby McLaughlin in 1952 and Rose Lewin in 2016. Darby has arrived in New York to attend secretarial school and she is staying at the Barbizon Hotel. Darby soon becomes friendly with a maid at the hotel, Esme, who introduces her to jazz clubs. Well this is my third book by this author, so i guess her books appeal to me. It was the first one she wrote, and it seemed less polished than the newer ones. All her books revolve around a famous NYC building and have a story set in the present which is connected to one in the past. This one seemed to stretch the connection a bit, but still I enjoyed the read and the way she presents the NYC of different decades. I liked the descriptions of the early jazz clubs, and also what a young girl would

Predicable debut, historical fiction, romance novel. Interesting topic, but delivered in a formulaic couple of romances in two different decades - one in the 1950s and other in 2016. Contains a number of the usual elements found in recent bestselling fiction that are becoming predictable components, with a too neat wrap up.
