I've long been a fan of Anne Tyler, and couldn't wait to read this new short novel. It lived up to my expectations, with the bitter-sweet flavour and vividly realised characters which are her trademarks. One in a series of novels loosely based on Shakespeare, the novel reworks the plot of The Taming of the Shrew. This was as delightful as any retelling of the Taming of the Shrew could be; that play will always be gross, so there were gross things about this, but Anne Tyler did as much lovely subverting as possible.
