Dwellers in the Mirage is my second Merritt novel, and it won't be my last, because I'm getting hooked on this guy. Written in 1932, you will no doubt, as you read it, detect the times -- and the pulps that came with them. But Merritt writes considerably better than most pulp writers, then and now. What elevates Merritt is his descriptive writing. Purple, yeah, but with swashbuckling fantasy, that's what I want. Lost civilizations, beautiful (and barely clad) women, a tough hero, strange creatur
