I've previously read and greatly enjoyed Miina's debut Garnethill trilogy, and was interested to see that this new one was set in late 1950s Glasgow. From the get go, it felt extremely different from the other books of hers I'd read -- much more formal and deliberate, with characters that didn't feel deeply conceived.
