What Members Thought
There is so much I loved about this book: honesty, the realness in the dialogue, complexity of the relationships, the shades of grey within each character, the women often contradictions in and of themselves. Most of these stories really touched me, shocked me, moved me. Many of them I related to directly in the worst/best way. Some of the stories felt unfinished, some felt heavy handed, and some of the themes were heavily repetitive throughout the collection so I couldn't quite give this a 5 st

First Roxane Gay book. Plan to read a story here and there between novels.
Oy! So raw, painful and beautiful. Roxane Gay seems to find new ways to break my heart with every story. Incredibly talented writer, a truly gifted original. Just read it, take your time, walk away when needed, but read it!
I don’t necessarily enjoy reading short stories, but after reading this and recently Her Body and Other Parties, I wouldn’t say I dislike short fiction any more. So that’s something.
