What a ride of a book! I was mesmerized from start to end. I would have read this story in just one sitting if life hadn’t gotten in the way, but I did read it all within 24 hours. And even though, like probably everyone who has read this novel, I don’t know exactly what happens in the end, I’m OK with that. I enjoyed the hypnotic, surreal, menacing feel to this story and the environmental theme. I wonder if it wouldn’t have been more powerful as a short story rather than a short novel. It ended up felling a bit repetitive and long, despite being only 192 pages long. I’m interested in reading more works by Schweblin, though, and will probably pick up her short stories next.

I honestly am sure what happened this book, all I know is that once I started it, I couldn't put it down. The creepiness started almost at once and didn't let up. I will say that the translation was wonderful.
