Elsa is almost 8 years old and is close to her grandmother who tells her fairy stories about the Land of Almost Awake. After Elsa's grandma dies Elsa is tasked with delivering a series of letters from her grandma to various people so her grandma can apologize to them. I like Elsa and loved some of the secondary characters, especially the Wurse. I also appreciated the humor throughout the book. I started this book last year, after reading A Man Called Ove, and felt that I had to read everything by this author. Well, for some reason I put it down after a couple pages. So I restarted it, read further than before and found that I couldn't put it down. Loved it, maybe not quite as much as Ove, but very good.

I started out liking this book because the grandma is such a humorous character. The main young.girl is brilliant and yet acts somewhat young with her loves of Harry Potter and superheroes and her absolute belief in everything on Wikipedia. Later on the fairytales are odd and the story drags a bit. It's okay, but I didn't like it near as well as I liked Backman's other book A Man Called Ove.

I liked it and give it 3.5 stars because I felt like I needed to take some notes about the characters to see how they lined up with the fairy tales. I did enjoy each character, as I always do with this author’s books. I enjoyed Britt-Marie Was Here much more though. I think I would have enjoyed this more had I picked up a written copy instead so I could have flipped back easier to cross reference items that I mixed up about the characters. I
