This book is so sweet especially for those who love words, books, and dictionaries. The story is about the struggle the characters have in publishing their dream project: a great Japanese dictionary. In the beginning, the story is a bit slow, and it took some time for me to get warm with the characters. When I read the blurb on this book, I knew I would enjoy it. A book on the creation of a dictionary, and a book set in Japan.
Years ago, I read The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester, which was a wonderful read (I had always fantasized about having a copy of the unabridged edition of the Oxford English Dictionary). In many ways The Great Passage is very similar.
