Well this was spectacular!! Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. It's book one in the Winternight trilogy. A Russian fairytale with witches, a bear, magic, the demon of winter and all that other good stuff.

Thanks Anneke for the awesome recommendation. I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

I don’t know why I didn’t write a review of this back in early March 2020 ... or, maybe I do know why. The world was falling apart. I probably had other things on my mind. But ...
I really enjoyed this book. It was both a glimpse into a time and place in history that I really don’t know much about - medieval Russia - and also had the beautiful quality of a folk tale.
