This was my first Mary Stewart novel - and I loved it! For me, the biggest fun was being transported to such a magical time and place. Call me old-fashioned but I love a heroine that is spunky and sweet at the same time. Nicola is just that girl.

I am so impressed with Mary Stewart's imagination. I've been reading her romantic suspense novels in the order in which they were published, and so far, no two are alike.
There are some familiar elements, however: her powerful descriptions, exotic locations, and heroines traveling from the UK. There are heroes as well - you know, someone for the heroine to fall in love with. But these are clean novels, so nothing unseemly happens - the romances are hints of possibilities, that is all.
