I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet and it's now been 20 months since I read it so my memory of details is wobbly. However, the atmosphere is sharp in my mind and the book continues to resonate. Not to mention the stunning cover; I displayed this upright for many months, like a little art work. It is a story that van maybe only be written by someone who is familiar with life in a non-democracy, with its bureaucratic arbitrariness and its fatalism.
