The 11-year-old and I were completely charmed by the time we reached the last page of this magical and unique story. What an adventure! The book is not compete, however, unless you also read the author's note which offers more background on the origins of the story and its players. Some of the oddest parts of the story were actually based on historical legends. This is an excellent read to complement any lessons on medieval history in Europe or the Middle Ages. Glorious and fun. When giving this book to kids, be sure to explain to them what an inquisitor is. It will make the narrator's reveal that much more fun if the reader has already guessed it. ...more
