It takes some pretty significant writing chops to take an intense conceit (it's an asteroid, for Pete's sake!) and play it in such a low-key way. The looming disaster in Palace's world is not the focus it would be in a more straightforward sci-fi plot, but acts more like a character whose presence pushes and pulls the others. The mystery at the book's center sits precisely where it should - a seemingly minor-in-the-scheme-of-things event that our hero just can't let go. Clever and sharp. ...more

I had a hard time connecting with the characters (except for a couple of the minor characters) and the plot ( which was all over the place).
