This is a really good book that shows a modern small town filled with eccentric people and a good-guy sheriff who suddenly has to solve several murders, a challenging situation very different than his usual tasks of locating goats and wayward people, hauling home DUI drivers, and dealing with such things as skunks in garbage cans.
