Nadia Turner takes up with the pastors son Luke Sheppard shortly after her mothers suicide. After Luke abandons her in a time of need Nadia spends the summer before college befriending Aubrey. The story covers about 6 years in the characters lives. Of course a love triangle forms and Nadia continues to be haunted by the spring before college. Most of the characters are quite complex though the reader must be patient to see the impact of various events and the characters’ reflections on those events to see the full depth. It shows how profound the impact of secrets can be. I enjoyed the character development and the story overall, though the way that adults can particularly or unknowingly affect the younger generations so negatively was a harsh reality to face.
