I have read a lot of fiction and non fiction about WWII. Despite that, I didn’t have a lot of information about the sequence of events for Poland, which may have been the most devastated. This book is based on a real family, it was so interesting to connect those pieces after finishing the book. The stories of survival never cease to amaze me.

This is based on the true story of a well-to-do Polish Jewish Family during the Holocaust. While the title is We Were the Lucky Ones- and they were, mostly- their travails really give you a different perspective on the horrors at that time. Hmmm...maybe not different. But perhaps the horror of it sinks in differently because, while they survived, it was so close to not surviving at times.
