This book jumps around in time which took a little getting used to. War brings out the best and worst in people. The author helps the reader to gain the perspective of women who fell into Nazism, fell in love with Nazi men and fell in love with Nazi resisters. The relationships between three women protagonists were complicated, harsh and loving. Their guilt, pride, and emotions are complex. This book grew on me. I should not have read another book about the Nazis so close to Lilac Girls and Karolina's Twins. I definitely have Nazi fatigue. But since that era has produced so many amazing stories, this again is a story from a different perspective . The main characters are three widows whose husbands were killed in the war for various reasons. They live together in a castle trying to keep themselves and their children safe for the rest of the war and the 5 years or so afterwards. This book would make a gr
