What do you do if you are a gorilla and you live in a cramped cage at a mall? Ivan the gorilla has befriended a couple of elephants and taken up drawing. And this is Ivan’s story. It’s a story I can almost guarantee that you will love. I also anticipate a few tears.

Finally got around to reading this. What a lovely, lovely story. Perfect for 7 year old's and up. The story is based on a real gorilla (now in the Atlanta zoo), which makes it even more sad.

Love the writing style and awesome cover design.

Quite an emotional read. I appreciate that while this is a middle grade book there are deeper lessons that can be found by older readers. The story definitely highlights the fact that the best of intentions can still have negative consequences. In this case, it is both the actions of the humans both the decision to relocate the friends also has negative consequences and could have had far greater ones if the opportunity didn't come through for George.
