Set in an Alpine village in Austria, Seethaler tells the story of an ordinary man who grew up on a farm and became a day laborer, willing to do any job. Within the 150 pages that is this book is a tale of the 20th century, from a village that is dealing with modernity in the 1920s and 30s, to the Eastern front in WWII, to the moon landing.

Robert Seethaler zeichnet in "Ein ganzes Leben" ein Bild vom Leben des in sich gekehrten, ruhigen, pragmatischen Andreas Egger. Und das in einem wunderschönen Stil, der mir keine andere Wahl ließ als in die Geschichte einzutauchen.

Andreas Eggers Leben in dem Tal ist selbst in seiner Kindheit entbehrungsreich und mit harter Arbeit verbunden. Von Verwandten widerwillig aufgenommen, muss er schon als Bub ohne Schoßwärme auskommen.
