His Bloody Project is a psychological thriller disguised as a true crime story; a collection of supposedly “found” documents about three brutal murders in the Highlands in 1869. Is the accused, one Roderick Macrae, mad, bad or both? Will truth save him form the gallows? Here fact and fiction confound one another. I thoroughly enjoyed this unusual thriller and am excited by this author. It was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2016 and won the Saltaire Fiction Book of the year for 2016 and deservedly so.
