I enjoyed reading the wonderful Italian prose, replete with all the conditionals, subjunctives and irregular verbs in passato remoto the heart could desire. This is the joy of reading in a foreign language: the words become a bit of a thicket, a bit of an obstacle, there's some ostranenie going on to remind you that language is a construct, and a way of other thinking is opened up. Some things cannot be said in any language but this one.

I loved Tabucchi's Sostiene Pereira which I read in Italian
