This is such a fun, witty book - one of the best I've read by Georgette Heyer, and it was exactly what I was in the mood for. Phoebe is a great heroine and has a lot of fun mocking the arrogance of the hero, Sylvester. Just a shame about the awful cover of this edition! ...more

This is a quick and fun regency romance. Sylvester is a bit arrogant and self—absorbed. Phoebe is quick to jump to conclusions. Neither is interested in the other, or at least at first. It is a bit predictable and ends a bit hastily, but overall I enjoyed it. 4 stars!

This has never been one of my favorite Heyer novels, but for some reason on this reading I liked it better. I think it must have been the humor connection between Sylvester and Phoebe. Or maybe it's that Phoebe's tendency to wilt never seemed plausible to me. Well, now as a parent, I have multiple children with that feature/tendency... So I'm now a believer.
