This fictional account of the story behind one of Rembrandt’s most famous paintings ends up being confectionary fluff, albeit pretty good quality fluff. Questions about morality, redemption, and art are treated a bit too superficially for my taste. There's hardly any narrative tension and the characters, despite getting to tell their own stories in their own chapters, still seem to be painted in broad strokes only.
