I missed some of Crombie's earlier works in this series and decided to rectify that deficiency. I'm glad I did. A well plotted mystery occurring before The Gemma-Duncan relationship had begun.

Crombie does an excellent job writing a plausible male/female friendship - she can let her characters simply be friends without necessarily making it more, but when it is more it feels like a natural progression rather than a forced plot point.
I just finished the second in the Deborah Crombie series featuring Kincaid and James. It is an excellent series and I can't wait to go on to the next one. For anyone who likes the classic P.D. James or Martha Grimes, this is a series for you.
