This is the account of James Oliver who sailed on the Ship Glide to the South Pacific. The ship's crew sailed to the Fiji Islands, bartered for beche-de-la-mer (Sea cucumber), a delicacy for the Chinese. The Ship sailed in 1829 from Salem (I am assuming MA). The Glide spent 22 months at sea, stopping at New Zealand, the Philippines, China, and Fiji to "buy" the Sea Cucumber to be sold to the Chinese.
