This is a slow-moving, kind of dated Newbery honor book from way back in 1993, the year that Missing May took the top Newbery honor, winning the medal. Both books seemed kind of shallow and slow to me.
Other Newbery honor books that year were The Dark-thirty: Southern Tales of the Supernatural, and Somewhere in the Darkness. I haven't read them yet, but I should. I like to compare the honor books with the medal winners and see what I'd have chosen as the winner that year.
