What Members Thought

The structure of this book is clever, and lifts the book beyond simple storytelling, but what drew me most were the characters and the setting. The time is 1946, before I was born, but Sherrard brought this era to life for me, as if I had been there. Gracie, the main female character, is so very touching and her situation - living in a small town with a mother who is suspected of, among other things, prostitution - is moving.
