What Members Thought
Bernie Gunther is one of my favorite series characters, and his irascible personality is on full display here. This one's a bit trickier to follow than some of the others as it jumps around in time and place quite a bit, but I'm continually impressed with Kerr's skill in capturing the deep ambiguities in Gunther's character and the world he moves in. Definitely right up there with Furst and Le Carre in the top tier of historical spy writers.
