This WWII novel is based on the real-life story and events of New York socialite Caroline Ferriday and a group of women concentration camp survivors known as the Ravensbruck Rabbits--the Nazi's experimental rabbits left to hop around the Ravensbruck camp following the horrible surgical experiments performed on them. This book is based on real events, the three Lilac Girls having counterparts in history. They are from very different backgrounds, but their paths cross in the turmoil that was the Nazi occupation of Poland, and in Ravensbruck, a camp for women only. I both enjoyed and was heartbroken with this book. It is based on true people and stories from World War 2. The experiences from the concentration camp and lack of resources afterwards are so sad. Some of the characters make poor decisions or suffer from other people's poor decisions. It is well written and I love that the prologue explains which parts are fact and which are fiction.

Wonderfully researched historical novel.
Perhaps will provide others with a new perspective on an aspect of World War II that is not often highlighted. Didn’t like the cover as I feel it is misleading for the content, but I definitely liked the writing and the storylines. Listened on audio and had trouble getting into it initially.
