I don't think I was in the right frame of mind to read this when I did. I have a weird fascination with war books, and especially with World War II books. Normally, I'm not averse to reading about the horrors that human beings can inflict on one another. I don't need my books to be all light and sunshine and lollipops. But this book got to me.
