Typical Daniel Silver -- exciting and very informative at the same time. In this book Gabriel goes in search of a Rembrandt that was being restored when its restorer was killed and the painting stolen. We soon discover that the painting conceals documents that list the numbers of Swiss bank accounts containing money and jewels stolen from Jewish citizens killed during the Holocaust. Very, very well done.

This is a fast paced and entertaining read, as all the other books in the Gabriel Allon series. However, sometimes the author's political views are so heavy handed, that it interferes with the enjoyment of the story.

I had mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed all of the parts concerning the painting and the mystery surrounding it. But other parts seemed a rehash of his previous books - recuiting and training the beautiful girl, the corrupt billionaire, the last minute rescue by Allon. But still this was his 10th Allon book and to just now find them repetitive is a tribute to the creativity of the author. As a standalone book it would have been 5 stars.

Not as tight as some of Silva's others as he tries to cram quite a lot of stuff into a single story, but still solid summer reading for thriller fans.
