This is a 3.5/4 star read for me.
My thoughts:
This book was a very pleasant surprise and when I started reading I did not know how delighted I would by the end. The brilliance of this captivating story is how the author cleverly builds the suspense and the foreshadowing through a portrait of a marriage and a family tragedy. Interesting premise, but....
I would have enjoyed this much more if it had been 250 pages instead of nearly 500. And it could have easily have been without losing much in the way of character or plot development. Sadly, the author seemed unable to control the urge to expand on every interaction and detail, however peripheral. Rather a shame, really.
The pace picked up a bit at the halfway point, but by that time my patience had grown thin. The ending seemed somewhat predictable and a bit rushed af ...more
