I'm reading this book out of order, having first accidentally read One Year After.
Even though I have an inkling of what's going to happen, I still can't put it down.
Love Forstchen's writing.

It's a compelling story set very near my grandparents' mountain cabin.

Scary to think this could actually happen. Although I disagreed with how quickly things might deteriorate, it was fascinating to be forced to think through all the things we take for granted in our lives and how irretrievably lost they'd be if America was hit by an EMP. Suddenly, I wondered how in the world would I get reconnected with my grown daughters who live in other cities, without electricity, phones, email, etc.? Excellent book about the fallout after an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). A very realistic novel detailing the downfall of society that really detailed what happens when the small things we take for granted are suddenly gone. It gave me a nightmare the first night I was listening to it which means it was certainly a good read.

Although a science fiction, it makes us think of what might become of our nation/s by just one single EMP (electro magnetic pulse) missile attack. No electricity, no electronics, no cars, no food etc. It's so real you forget it's just a story. ...more

Good story, and apparently it actually COULD happen, but the writing was a bit amateurish, and the characters didn't seem to convey the emotion I would have thought with such an event. ...more

I had massive problems with the logical fallacy that no one in this community farmed. June in the Carolinas?! And no one was harvesting or planting a garden? I literally could not finish.
