I'd never heard of the author, a German-Swiss who writes in Italian, prior to picking up this slim collection of seven short stories. I then read an interview with her where she says she doesn't really care about writing and considers herself a mystic. That feels right to me -- the stories here are written in a very deliberately spare, cold style where an almost fairy-tale atmosphere of darkness pervades.
