The Program presents a future in which suicide is an epidemic among teenagers and is supposedly spread like an infectious disease. In order to save the children, certain areas are implementing "The Program" *dumdumdum* where students have their memories erased in order to take away the triggers of depression, anxiety, and desire to self-harm. If this seems at odds with the theory it's a contagious disease, you would be in good company. Something is fishy, and I wasn't quite sure if it was intent

I thought the author did a good job with her characters, that the feelings seemed genuine, compelling and authentic. However, I just couldn't suspend disbelief enough to accept the basic premise that a parent would be fine erasing the memories of their child and leaving them an empty shell, and that the entire government, not to mention many countries, would go along with it.

This book made me cry, like a lot! The subject matter was very thought provoking and incredibly sad. But an enjoyable read with great characters. My favorite part is that the romance already had a solid foundation, which you don't see very often in YA. Can't wait to read the last book!
