Furst as always lays down perfect atmosphere, and his close focus on Casson and his circle of friends gives a much deeper level of insight into the reality of Paris during the early days of the Occupation. He does an especially nice job here of showing how people, seemingly similar on the surface, make very different choices about how to behave under German rule.
