Can we discuss how much I loved this book? Sepetys is an amazing young adult writer. I loved the companion book to this one, Between Shades of Grey. The amount of research she does for these books is very thorough and gives the stories an air of authenticity and truth.
The story of several young adults from different countries attempting to evacuate in front of the Soviet advance. I can't believe that the story of over 25,000 sea deaths in the Baltic Sea during this operation has been so largely forgotten. A great story.
