This was a pretty emotional read. Especially after having worked with Somali refugees in the past, learning a little bit about their history made their struggles more real. We don't hear much about the struggles in Africa as the news is often focused on the Middle East. This book brought to life the stories of the suffering of real people that most of the world has forgotten. There isn't much joy in this book, really no joy at all. Working with children of refugee families, I knew their lives have been challenging. This book gave me the opportunity to understand the workings of a refugee camp and the horrors, the frustrations, and stagnation that occurs for the hundreds of thousands who live in just one camp. So much wasted potential. Anyone who works, teaches, volunteers, lives with refugees should read this book. I highly recommend it but it will disturb you.
