I found this book painfully boring, which was a surprise, given the cultural and historical events taking place. The author bogged everything down in meaningless details and descriptions. I will give some leeway that something may have been lost in translation if the author originally wrote this in Turkish. A long, meandering, and beautiful book following the life of Mevlut, a boza seller. It's epic and involves so many characters. It feels so full and complicated, like life. In some manner, it is truly a story of love and devotion to a city, a partner, and your person.
