There's some YA I like, but generally not this kind of "romance at high school" kind of thing. It all seemed very juvenile, and would probably appeal to tweens who would like to imagine what high school romances might be like.
There were some good philosophical moments throughout the book, yet Lara Jean didn't seem 100% believable to me. In some ways, she seemed too mature for 16, like when she said:
“I need peace,” I say, closing my eyes. “I need to replenish myself with peace.”

I liked this story of teen love and loss. It tells of the loss of a sister who goes far away to college, an earlier loss of a mother, and the loss of the friendship of a boy the main character had always considered her best friend. When some of her private, never-to-be-mailed love letter to previous boys get mailed to them without her knowledge, it is also a story of loss of privacy and the gaining of a fake boyfriend and some true teenage angst.

However, this book about high-school drama with vacuous, dull and unlikeable characters was truly a pain to complete. I continued to endure the pain just to remind ...more
