This would have been a four star book for me, except for the last 50 or so pages. The story is finished, but Manicka carries on- even introduces a new character- and the book becomes more of a dynasty story. I thought it was at its best when concentrating on Parvathi's life, and its connections with the mysterious Kupu and the wise and gifted servant Maya. The recurring symbols of cobra and peacocks,along with the blending of Indian, Malay and Japanese culture disappear in the pragmatics of tyin
