I didn't think I could like this nearly as much as I loved Life after Life but Kate Atkinson's gorgeous writing and ability to traverse the arc of a human life are just as brilliantly done here. Weaving in and out of memories and stream of conscious thoughts, Atkinson shows the tenuous threads that hold together relationships as well as memory. The utter devastation of war and the impact of so many lost lives "the dead are legion" is explored in the story of the very lovable Ted. Reading this as

A companion novel to Life After Life this book tells the story of Teddy Todd. The most interesting parts of the book to me were Teddy's war. I didn't find Teddy's daughter Viola as annoying as some but I wouldn't want to be around her much. The ending of the book annoyed me. Overall a worthwhile read.

Not as good as Life After Life, but a very nice companion novel. If you enjoyed the first one, then this one is a very good one as well.
