This book is underrated and is listed in Jane Smiley's book 13 Ways of Looking at a Novel and is one of the top 100 books she recommends people read. So glad I read it.

I loved parts of this book but parts of it felt very dated. The descriptions of life on a farm, with all the vivid details of summer were so charming. it brought back a lot of memories of childhood days on Boston Road. But none of the characters really grabbed me, and I find that caring for characters is one of my main criteria in liking a book. I imagine it would make a good discussion.
