Classic Highsmith, quite similar in feel & plot to the Ripley books, but with very different characters, in a different setting. EVERYONE is unlikeable - except the young daughter, Trixie, and her dog, Roger. (Nothing bad happens to Trixie or Roger.) The philandering wife, Melinda, was vile, and yet strangely sympathetic.
