I love elephants and loved all the pages/time devoted to them in this book. Most of which I was familiar w/ -- live less than 2 hrs from Hohenwald and have visited their storefront. I think I was so engrossed w/ this aspect of the book -- the psychic, etc wasn't as interesting to me but still a very good read. 4.5/B+ I see this was published in 2014, and no wonder I missed it, was too absorbed in my own grieving at that time to want to read something like this. ...more

Struggled between 3 and 4 stars, so I'll call it 3.5. Loved all the wonderful information about elephants, although at one point I thought it did get bogged down with too much of that storyline. It recovered quickly and as a whole was an entertaining read. I did not see the twist coming, but while I thought she did a great job in her execution of that plot line I had a feeling of 'ho hum, been there done that'. ...more

I love this book. I listened on audio and couldn't wait to get in my car to listen or clean the house with my head phones on. This is a great book about love, grief, motherhood, spirit and elephants. I loved learning about the elephants and I listened on audio to The Elephant Whisperer this year as well and Picoult references this book in Leaving Time. I enjoyed so many aspects of this book. This one is about elephant conservation and others have done it better. There are several other issues namely family relationships , and living in foreign countries which get adequate play.
