As with most Crichton books there is a very good idea and intriguing possibilities but the story just doesn't come together coherently or plausibly in the story relating to "Dave" or the various talking animals and too many plot lines start and go nowhere. Without the science its a bit of a cross between Dr Dolittle and Comad ...more

What is so scary about this book is that it so easily could be real. The major focal point is transgenic animals which only several decades ago was the true stuff of science fiction. Today some of that fiction is reality.
