This is one of the better book I've read lately. Set in the Red Hook part of Brooklyn it is peopled with characters from various walks of life, none of them privileged. Most of the characters are flawed but trying to do the best they can and atone for mistakes they have made.

This may actually be a 3 star read but my expectations were high and my disappointment takes it down a star. I'm a big Dennis Lehane fan and I liked The Cutting Season; however this one doesn't even come close. First off, billing it as a mystery is way off base and I would not recommend it to any of my friends who love mysteries. This is written more as literary fiction but even that misses.
