Andrea
A good middle grades adventure story. Some fun sly humor for older readers as well and while most of the mythological content is pretty basic, there are a couple of interesting twists. The only real criticism I had was that it seems to rely too heavily for my comfort on gender stereotypes at times (the angelic mother, the smart but not esp. physical girl companion, the struggle for dominance among adolescent males, the importance of being claimed by a father figure). I really liked this book, despite having put off reading it for so long. My students told me many times how good it is, so I finally read it, have already bought the second one, and have passed the first one on to my nephew.
