As she helped him to his feet, she could feel his eyes on her. His stare was heavy and intent.

“Am I causing you pain?” she asked.

“Always. Every time you’re near.”

She turned her face away to hide her wounded reaction. “I’m sorry.”

“Not what I meant.” He sounded drunk. With his healthy hand, he nudged her jaw until she faced him. “You’re too beautiful. It hurts.”

After the highs found in both the first book and the second one, this third installment in the Spindle Cove series wasn’t quite up to snuff. Ordinarily I love tortured, distant heroes, but even this wasn’t enough to overcome what was often a dull story with very little character development. Moreover, the obstacle to the couple’s love wasn’t multilayered or multidimensional, so the continuing angst over it was tiresome. Fun, but not my favorite of hers. I really liked her, he was kind of a pain. Maybe just not in the mood. Did take my mind off my crazy life right now.
