This was a beautiful historical fiction, set in the Philippines. Dusk is the first of a series of fives novels written about the village of Rosales. The story is about a poor family that must flee Spanish oppression, and find a new place to live. The time period is from the 1870s through to 1898 and the Battle of Tirad Pass.
Dusk at it's most basic is the story of a family trying to survive, yet there is so much more as well. Faith, social justice and education are all explored here.
